Ostraco
Is where you'll find
me most evenings when I'm in Plakias. It also the source of my nickname
on the Net. It's the Greek word for seashell - and as I'm a bit
of a beachbum, seemed very appropriate!
Ostraco is also (in
my opinion) the best Internet Cafe in Plakias, so it's a great place
to pop in and keep in touch with the rest of the world.

Is this the most difficult place in
town to photograph? I'm not sure - but I know it is one of the most
popular!
Downstairs is open all day,
and is a great place for a snack, ice-cream or even breakfast if
you can manage the morning!
After a good evening meal, its
got to be the Ostraco bar for me. You can get a drink or a coffee
downstairs, but go upstairs for a drink and a lovely view from the
balcony right across the bay.

Ostraco is run by Yannis
and Sharon, his English wife. Sharon
is very happy in Plakias - but always welcomes a box of English tea
bags! (Tetley preferred!) She says that the tea in Greece is just
not the same!
The Upstairs bar opens early evening,
and closes when the last person goes home
which can be well into the morning!
Yannis is known for his collection of music, which is vast, and
is mainly UK or USA but hell play some Greek if you
ask him. He loves doing requests.

Shortly
after I started using Ostraco, Manolis began working there. Since
that time he became part of the bar, part of Plakias, part of the
fun we always have there. We also enjoyed many happy hours of his
company in the Hexagon Club, which Sharron and Yannis also ran for
a few years.
In November 2000, Manolis died in a car accident near Plakias. This
news was received with deep sadness by his many friends from all over
the world.
Rest in peace Manolis. Your wicked smile and practical jokes will
be missed just as much as your loyal friendship. |
